Shiatsu Massage in Las Terrenas
Shiatsu is a Japanese finger-pressure technique. We don't offer it at Evy Spa — but if what you want is to release the knots in your neck, shoulders and upper back, our deep tissue massage does exactly that work.
At Evy Spa this is done as a deep tissue massage
We don't offer traditional shiatsu. The treatment that releases the same upper-back, neck and shoulder knots is our deep tissue massage — firm pressure and deep work across the areas holding tension.

What shiatsu is
Shiatsu literally means “finger pressure”. It's a Japanese technique that works by leaning thumbs, palms and elbows into specific points and holding for a few seconds, following the lines along which traditional Japanese medicine understands energy to travel. It's received clothed, without oil, and usually includes stretches.
It takes specific training in that tradition, and none of our therapists holds it. We'd rather not call something shiatsu when it isn't: our team is trained in therapeutic and deep tissue massage, and that's what we do well.
In practice, people looking for shiatsu almost always arrive with the same thing — an upper back seized up from screens, a neck that won't turn, shoulders loaded from a backpack or hours of driving. For that, deep tissue is the direct tool: firm pressure and sustained work on the exact spot that's complaining.
What the deep tissue massage does
Releases the knots
Deep, sustained work on the specific tight spots, until the area gives.
Neck and shoulders
The area guests ask for most: the tension left by screens, long flights and backpacks.
More range of movement
Freeing the muscle gives the neck and shoulders their mobility back.
Pressure matched to you
The therapist adjusts the intensity with you throughout — firm, but never forced.
60 or 90 minutes
The 90-minute session covers the full back, neck and shoulders without rushing any area.

Shiatsu massage — frequently asked questions
Do you do shiatsu at Evy Spa?
No. Shiatsu takes specific training in that Japanese tradition, and our team is trained in therapeutic and deep tissue massage. For the same neck, shoulder and upper-back tension, our deep tissue massage is the direct alternative.
What's the difference between shiatsu and deep tissue?
Shiatsu is received clothed, without oil, holding pressure on specific points. Deep tissue is done with oil on a table, gliding and kneading the muscle. Both relieve deep tension — deep tissue covers more ground and lets us work a whole tight area.
I want something without oil because I've come from the beach. What do you suggest?
Tell us when you book. We use very little oil and finish with warm towels; if you'd rather, we can focus the session on neck and shoulders so you don't need to shower afterwards.
How much is the deep tissue massage?
US$70 for 60 minutes and US$90 for 90 minutes, at the spa or at your address in Las Terrenas.
