Las Terrenas Boutique Hotels & In-Room Massage

A lot of the people who ask us to come to their room are staying somewhere small: a hotel with a handful of rooms, a pool, and a breakfast someone actually cooks for you. That makes sense. Most boutique hotels in Las Terrenas don't run a full spa, and their rooms open onto gardens and terraces that suit a massage table very well.
So this is a short guide for exactly that guest. A few boutique hotels in Las Terrenas, grouped by area, and then how an in-room massage works once you're there. If you're still choosing where to stay, start with the areas. If you've already booked, skip straight to how it works.
Boutique hotels in Las Terrenas, by area
Las Terrenas is small, but each stretch of coast has its own pace. These are the boutique hotels we'd mention to a friend, and all of them are a short drive for our therapists.
Town centre: Takuma Boutik Hotel
Takuma is home for us: Evy Spa is inside the hotel, on Calle Emilio Prudhomme. It's a small place, seven rooms and one apartment, most of them opening onto a private garden around a long saltwater pool, and the beach at Punta Popy is a few minutes away on foot.
If you stay here, you can walk over to the spa in your flip-flops. Or, if you'd rather not leave your room at all, we come up to you, and Takuma guests pay no travel fee.
Las Ballenas: Mahona Boutique Hotel
Mahona is adults-only, a short walk from Playa Las Ballenas, with bungalows set around the garden and pool, and at least one room type with a private pool of its own. It suits couples who want quiet, and it has the kind of outdoor space where two massage tables fit side by side.
Punta Popy: Punta Popy Boutique Hotel
A small adults-only B&B on Avenida España, five rooms, and homemade breakfasts that reviewers mention again and again. The Punta Popy beach is about five minutes on foot. Good for travellers who like hosts who learn their name on day one.
Punta Popy: Aromas Eco Hotel
A few private cabins on a small hill above Punta Popy, each named after a scent: vanilla, cinnamon, lavender. Each one comes with its own jacuzzi and a view of the sea. It calls itself an eco hotel, and it's the one on this list for people who want to wake up among trees rather than next to a pool. A massage on a cabin terrace up there, with the sea below, is hard to beat.
Staying in one of the bigger resorts towards Cosón instead? Several of them have their own spa. Ask at reception before you book us, so nobody is surprised.
How an in-room massage works at your hotel
It's the same service we offer in villas, described in full on our mobile massage page. In short:
- Message us on WhatsApp with your hotel, the treatment you'd like, how many of you, and the day and time. We come out every day between 9am and 5pm. You can also send it through our booking page.
- Tell your reception. Small hotels like to know when a therapist is coming, and it saves a wait at the door.
- We set up. Your therapist arrives with a professional table, oils, fresh linens and warm towels, and sets up wherever is calmest: your room, a private terrace, a corner of the garden.
- You stay put. When it's over there's no taxi and no drive back. Shower when you feel like it, or don't, and lie down for as long as you like.
The treatments cost exactly what they cost at the spa. Our relaxing massage, for example, is US$60 for 60 minutes. On top of that there is one flat US$20 travel fee per visit, however many of you are booking (none at Takuma, where the spa already is). Every price is on our prices page.
For two people, the couples massage is US$125 for 60 minutes, with two therapists working side by side at the same time. It needs room for two tables, so a terrace or garden usually works better than the bedroom.
When a massage in your room makes the most sense
The day you arrive. A long flight followed by the drive over to the peninsula leaves most people stiff and slightly dazed. If you check in by early afternoon, an hour on the table in your own room, then an early night, is the gentlest possible start to the trip. Arriving later? Book it for the next morning.
After a big day out. The El Limón waterfall hike, a boat to a far beach, a morning of surfing. Coming back to a massage you don't have to travel to is the whole point. For planning those days, Exploras has the excursion guides.
Before a dinner out. A massage that ends by five, a slow shower, then a walk to the Pueblo de los Pescadores. Nothing to rush, nowhere to drive.
The last morning. If you have a long drive to the airport ahead of you, a massage before you pack makes the trip home noticeably easier on the back.
Three things to check with your hotel first
Whether they allow outside therapists. Many small hotels are fine with it, but some run their own massage service and prefer you use it. One question at reception settles it.
Where we can set up. One table needs about the floor space of a double bed plus room to walk around it. Two tables, for a couples massage, almost always means a terrace, a garden or a large suite.
Quiet. If your room is next to the pool or the breakfast area, ask whether there's a calmer spot for an hour. Hotels like these usually find one.
If you're staying in one of these boutique hotels, or any other in Las Terrenas, send us your hotel name and the time you'd like on WhatsApp and we'll confirm it, usually within minutes. You can also choose your treatment on the booking page first, and we'll bring the rest.
